There’s Christmas concerts, fun and festivities with lots of bustling markets and VAT free shopping. La Fête dé Noué with candlelit parades, street entertainment and artisan markets resplendent with twinkling lights and teaming with goodies, make Jersey the ideal place to pick up unusual gifts and bargains amidst an atmosphere of magical festivities.

A wonderful festive atmosphere

Beginning with the Christmas lights switch on during the last week of November, St Helier welcomes in the Christmas season with music, dancing, magical parades, street entertainment and a variety of exciting festive markets. Taking place throughout the town, join in with Christmas carol singing in Royal Square, listen to opera sung from street corners, watch the colourful evening festival float parade, enjoy an historical tour of the town or an evening ghost walk, view festive films and shop ’til you drop at the various festive markets.

Late Night Christmas Shopping

Jersey’s shops stay open until 9pm on Thursday evenings during the festive season starting from when the Christmas Lights are switched on in the last week of November. Shop to the sounds of carol singers, watch festive parades and dancing and enjoy a mulled wine or hot chocolate in between present hunting.

Jersey’s Seasonal Markets and La Fête dé Noué

La Fête dé Noué is designed to find everyone’s Christmas spirit and is Jersey’s traditional winter festival. Ice skate at Fort Regent, enjoy the delicious aromas from the market stalls and browse for unique hand made gifts. There’s also a magical illuminated parade to enjoy.

Spirit of Christmas Market

Underneath the radiant Christmas tree lights in Royal Square, St Helier, you will find wooden stalls full of festive goodies. From decorations and handmade gifts to tasty treats, enjoy a cup of mulled cider or hot chocolate and watch as La Fête dé Noué takes off. Jersey’s knowledgeable Blue Badge Guides will be on hand on Saturday and Sunday for a free tour of the historic town centre.

Joyeux Noël – Le Marchi Nouormand

Happy Christmas from the Norman-French Market at Weighbridge Place, St Helier. Taste and buy traditional produce such as crêpes, saucisson and cider.

Shopping in Jersey

Beresford and Central Markets

St Helier also has two permanent markets, Central Market and Beresford Market, both open Monday to Saturday from 7.30am until 5.30pm with an early 2.30pm closure on Thursdays. Both markets are situated in Beresford Street, just off the main pedestrianised shopping streets. Whilst Beresford Market is known for its fresh fish catches and even has an angling shop, Central Market is full with fruit, vegetables, flowers and artisan stalls and is a great place to pick up some traditional Jersey food.

Shopping in Jersey

St Helier is the main shopping centre and whilst being compact enough to enjoy, offers a wide range of high street favourites, two department stores, De Gruchys and Voisins and many unique specialist shops. Goods bought in Jersey are VAT free and have low duty so shopping on the island will mean great value for money.

Aside from the main shopping area, Liberty Wharf is situated between the harbour and centre of St Helier and is Jersey’s only undercover shopping area. Small shopping areas can be found in St Ouen, St John, Gorey and at Les Quennevais and Five Oaks in St Brelade. However, for some genuine Jersey goods, take a trip to some of the farm shops and garden centres around the island. The National Trust for Jersey shop is also a fantastic place to shop at Christmas with candlelit tours, late night shopping, tasty teats from the Georgian kitchens and visits from Father Christmas at 16 New Street in St Helier.
