Celebrating the island cuisine

It would be fair to say that if you are around at any island festival there will be a huge food presence! However the islands also like to celebrate their culinary heritage with farmers markets and specific food festivals:

  • May is when the Jersey Royal is at peak harvest. Events on the island include foraging talks and walks, the chance to see behind the scenes with the islands dairies and food producers as well as plenty of tastings.
  • Guernsey Seafront Sundays also begin around May and take place throughout the summer with cookery demonstrations and culinary expertise on show in St Peter Port.
  • Herm’s Real Ale and Cider Festival takes place at The Mermaid Tavern in June.
  • The Airtel-Vodafone Portuguese Food Festival demonstrates the best of Madeiran traditional cuisine in Jersey in August.
  • Jersey Real Ale and Cider Festival in September is hosted by CAMRA and showcases over 70 real ales plus perries and ciders.
  • La Fais’sie d’cidre takes place at Hamptonne Country Life Museum in October when traditionally agricultural workers were paid in part with cider! Stay on after the festival for music and entertainment with Sounds and Cider Saturday.
  • If you’re heading to Guernsey try a self-guided ‘Tasty Walk,’ narrated by eco-guru and food expert James Strawbridge, the walks take in the best scenery with plenty of refreshing stops en route.
  • Tennerfest is the biggest inter-island food event and takes place for 6 weeks in October and November when the islands’ eateries offer all inclusive set price menus starting from £10.

Guernsey’s Seafront Sundays
