Guernsey’s Great Food

Late summer and Autumn are a great time to visit the Channel Islands, especially if you love food! The Guernsey International Food Festival returns this September and is closely followed by Tennerfest which, taking place from 1st October to 11th November, the inter island food event.

The island has already become a haven for food lovers, being featured as a destination for ITV’s ‘Hungry Sailors’ and on Countryfile. Island-wide, the festival will include food promotions, live food shows, masterclasses, food demos, chef exchanges, cook offs and activities for all ages. The main festival hub will be in St Peter Port where food markets and a tasty programme of events will be taking place.

The Festival

Promising something for all ages, the festival takes place across Guernsey and the Bailiwick islands. Demos, promotions, markets and interactive events will aim to showcase the fantastic local island produce with an array of island and international chefs taking part. Previous events have included:

Guernsey’s Food Heritage

Guernsey has long been established as an island for food lovers. Island life lends itself naturally to fresh local seafood dishes and the milder climate ensured specialities such as tomatoes, which were once grown abundantly, have started to regain their position. Home grown produce is encouraged on the island with ‘hedge veg’ stalls overflowing with wonderful garden goodies all over the island. Fresh rich creamy milk is also an island staple with some of the island’s cheese producers winning international accolades. Wine, cider and beer and liqueur producers mean a full palette is catered for! Take a closer look at some of the great island restaurants and their accolades or find out more about Guernsey’s Tasty Walks narrated by tv eco guru, chef and ‘Hungry Sailor’ James Strawbridge.
