Autumn Walking Festivals

Autumn Walking Festival

15th – 30th September 2018

Discover an island this Autumn

Each year the islands of Jersey and Guernsey participate in a week dedicated to walking and it’s a great way to get to know the island and find out some little known facts from the experts. Each island has accredited walking guides who lead a series of specialist walks throughout the year. During the Walking Festival or Walking Week, these walks take place several times a day, offering visitors a prime chance to enjoy a range of subjects.

Guernsey Autumn Walking Festival

Just prior to the event, a programme is released with details of times and dates of the walks. Each costs £6, although the programme offers a discount and you can take part in a walk for free. Graded ‘Amble,’ ‘Medium,” and ‘Ramble’ walks can be chosen according to experience and fitness level. For the enthusiastic, a cliff top walk along Guernsey’s south coast may provide a challenge, for others, an amble on the west coast may be enough. Walks also cover a diverse range of subjects, examining anything from the historical sites on the island to a nature reserve or even discovering the origins of a wartime potato peel recipe. Guernsey’s walking programme includes walks on its bailiwick islands of Herm and Sark.

Jersey Autumn Walking Week

Although an official walking week only takes place in the Spring, Jersey’s accredited guides cover a diverse range of subjects and walks continue throughout the year. Take a walk on the lunar like seabed, discover and taste oysters or learn from a retired harbour masters some of the secrets of the coast.
