Channel Islands Golf

Golf in Jersey

The largest and southernmost of the Channel Isles, Jersey encompasses 46 square miles (118km) of sloping hills and valleys, with a wider variety of geographical features than most of the Isles. As the most populous of the Isles, Jersey offers more activities, but golf remains it’s speciality.

With two par-fives contained within its first three holes, the Royal Jersey Golf Club starts fast and doesn’t let up. Raised greens are a trademark of the Royal Jersey, as well as several tricky short holes. At just over 6,120 yards, the course offers a challenging test for any level of golfer.

Established in 1902 and a regular stop on the European Seniors Tour, La Moye Golf Club‘s 6,644 yards feature sand hills, pot bunkers and some daunting rough. Mix these with awe-inspiring views of St. Quen’s Bay and a sometimes stiff westerly wind, for an unforgettable and picturesque adventure.

Golf in Guernsey

Located in an area known as L’Ancresse Common, on the northern end of the island is the Royal Guernsey Golf Club. The Club, founded in 1890, offers a challenging course situated among beautiful rolling hills, surrounded by the beauty of the unique environment. Spectacular views across both L’Ancresse and Pembroke beaches can easily distract a golfer attempting to line up a birdie putt. A treat for the eyes as well as a test for the serious golfer, with first-rate clubhouse facilities including a well-appointed pro shop along with a lounge/bar and restaurant, the Royal is first-class personified.

On Guernsey’s western coast is La Grande Mare Golf Club. Nestled among 120 acres alongside the sandy beaches of Vazon Bay, La Grande Mare has served golfers since 1994 in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere among a pastoral and scenic 18 hole layout that is unforgettable.

In St Peter Port, golfers rave about the Tony Jacklin designed St Pierre Park Golf Course, a nine hole course that is short but extremely challenging. Do not be deceived by this innocuous looking course with its abundant water hazards and sloping approaches. More than a few golfers have finished up their nine only to dash back to have another go at this very under-rated gem.

Guernsey Golf Clubs:

  • L’Ancresse Golf Club, L’Ancresse, Vale
  • La Grande Mare Golf & Country Club, Vazon Bay, Castel
