How Potato Peel Pie made it to our screens

A film with a rather long name has just been released onto our cinema screens and it’s well worth watching. Heartwarming and thought provoking, ‘The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society’ has a prestigious cast who bring the story of the extraordinary lives of a group of people in Guernsey to our hearts.

Today we’ve read about life during the war, watched old film clips and viewed photographs. Many of us may have family stories and know people who fought for our country or worked to aid the war effort. Some may remember being evacuated. Each year, we commemorate and celebrate the achievements of those people and those who didn’t return. We know ‘our dear Channel Islands’ as Churchill announced on 8th May 1945, experienced life under occupation but what that truly meant for its residents is lost on many.

Sensitively and compassionately whilst retaining a touch of humour, this film brings that home to us. Applauding the resilience of humanity under extreme conditions and telling a heartwarming tale, I’d recommend booking tickets now.
