Car Hire ‘Basic Collision Damage Waiver’ Explained

This extra is now included in our car hire prices and fly drive packages

We’ve had positive feedback from clients about Basic Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) now being included in our car hire holiday costs.

We listened and responded. Following feedback from clients who didn’t like being charged this extra cost when collecting their hire car, we decided to include it in our 2015 prices. In fairness it can add up to a quite a bit so it’s reassuring that the basic CDW is now included. Clients still have the option of reducing the excess to zero on payment of a “Super CDW” supplement locally but at least the sting is taken out of the tail by the basic CDW being included. It’s interesting to note that many companies and hotels which report to include car hire often omit to include the cost of basic CDW in their basic costs.

Not having basic CDW leaves you vulnerable and is rather like not having car insurance. In many countries it’s compulsory. Without basic CDW you would have to pay the total cost of any repairs should the rental car be in an accident, be stolen, vandalised or damaged in any way. Costs may include loss of earnings to the car hire company as well as for towing the car, admin charges and the costs of the repairs. Do bear in mind with basic CDW there is a reduced excess charge but if you want to reduce this to zero, then we recommend you consider Super CDW.

For all our car hire the following is automatically included:

  • Basic CDW insurance with excess reduced
  • Unlimited mileage
  • Airport collection/delivery
  • 24-hour breakdown service
  • All cars are fitted with seat belts, radio/cd and some have a sunroof or air conditioning

Happy motoring whilst on holiday!
