La Fête dé Noué – Jersey Christmas Markets

30 Nov – 15 Dec 2013 Festive Market

A winter break to Jersey in December may not be at the forefront of people’s minds when considering a few days away but coincide a visit with La Fête dé Noué and this delightful Christmas festival has all the ingredients of a magical, yet mission-filled trip: a welcome opportunity to tick off that Christmas present list; enjoy mouth-watering cuisine and still have time to explore the beautiful coastline with wonderful winter walks.

La Fête dé Noué translates from the local Jersey Norman-French language to "Christmas Festival". Now in its 14th year the festival takes place at various locations island wide although the majority centre around St Helier. Bursting full of events, visitors and local residents can experience the preparations for a true Jersey Christmas. There’s a full programme of activities during the lead up to the festive period. It’s an ideal time to get into the Christmas spirit and stock up on gorgeous gifts. Be captivated as the capital, St Helier, comes alive with festoons of twinkly lights, spectacular Christmas parades, craft markets, street entertainers, music, Christmas carols, a traditional Victorian Christmas market and plenty of festive food and drink.

St Helier has an excellent shopping centre with pedestrian areas, a good mix of well-known High Street stores plus small, local craft and boutique shops. Remember, there’s no VAT in Jersey so prices are that little more attractive with items such as perfume and jewellery being particularly good value.

We can’t all “shop ’til we drop,” so the many cafés, bars and restaurants which intersperse the capital can make a welcome break for tired feet. During December most of St Helier’s shops are open for late night shopping on Thursdays, also, all day on Sundays, which is a rare occurrence in Jersey! Furthermore if you visit from Monday 16th to 23rd December you’ll find some shops open each night until 7pm.

It’s worth noting that a number of Jersey hotels that are open year round offer great value winter breaks, with three nights for the price of two making a Friday to Monday weekend particularly attractive.
