Plemont Bay – Jersey’s Best Kept Secret

A Review of this area on the north coast

Plemont BayWe were in Jersey camping last week at the Beuvelande campsite in St Martins, but we had been told about a beach on the north west coast with caves and a waterfall, so we had to find it!

We used our bus passes to go to St Helier and then caught the bus which serves Plemont Bay. The advice was to get off at Portinfer and this would leave us a ten minute walk to a café at the top. This was a real treasure of a café serving American breakfasts, as well as all the usual Jersey specials like crab sandwiches and cream teas.

Not wishing to linger too long knowing that the beach would be covered at high tide we set off down all the steep steps (not for the faint hearted!). There was a waterfall right beside the steps which is just amazing. The beach is sandy and beautifully clean like all the beaches in Jersey with lots of shallow pools which were lovely and warm. You can go right through the waterfall to the caves behind. It was a wonderful discovery.

There was loads to explore – rock pools, cliffs and caves and we took hundreds of photo’s, the north coast is very dramatic. Absorbed by our adventure we then noticed the tide was coming in fast so we decided to climb back up the steps for a well-deserved meal at the café. The views from the top were stunning and we could see all the way across to Sark and Guernsey. With the sun across the water, it was really beautiful.

This beach has got to be one of the best around. There weren’t many people about and I guess the steep steps are not easy for everyone plus you have to be there at low tide to really appreciate the miles of sand. People in the café told us that Plemont is Jersey’s best kept secret but the secret’s out now!
